Thin Skin

Democrats think they’ve found a weakness in Pat McCrory – one that can be fatal in a politician: thin skin.

Oddly, it’s the same sensitivity Mitt Romney showed when the Obama campaign raised questions about his business career. Romney took it as a personal attack. McCrory reacted the same way to the Tree.com ad.

Welcome to the NFL, boys. Stop your whining.

This is all fair game. Especially if you’re going to run on your record in business. As James Carville noted on CNN last night, Romney never mentions that he was governor of Massachusetts. But he talks all the time about how America needs his great business experience.

That’s a fair point for him to make. But he can’t then say that his business record isn’t fair game.

Same for McCrory. He told the N.C. Chamber he had spent 27 years in business. Well, then, the Democrats have a right to examine that record.

McCrory has only been in one tough statewide race, and he lost that. His thin skin – and the close polls – are giving Democrats renewed hope for November.
