Republican Meltdown

It’s an iron law of politics: Stay out of the way when your opponent is busy destroying himself.

So Barack Obama is smart to lay low this week.

John McCain’s VP pick shows us what kind of President he would be. He would make rash, risky and reckless decisions. Without waiting for the intelligence reports.

Just like George Bush!

It would not be “Country First.” It would be “My Political Hide First.”

Sarah Palin was a blatantly political pick. McCain panicked after the Democratic convention and Obama’s speech. He wanted to stop the momentum. He did. The wrong way.

Now he has given up the strongest argument he had against Obama: Not ready to lead.

Democrats shouldn’t argue that Palin is unqualified. They should just take McCain at his word that she is. Because if she is, Obama clearly is.

Of course, as a Fox News anchor said, she’s had foreign policy experience commanding the Alaska National Guard in Alaska, which is right beside Russia.

As Jon Stewart pointed out, Alaska is also near the North Pole, so she probably knows Santa Claus too.

Fox and Republicans are spinning madly to defend McCain’s decision. It shows wonderful family values. It has “revved up the base.”

Show me a party that worries about revving up the base at this point in the campaign, and I’ll show you a party that’s losing. It’s another iron law of politics.
