We’re Moving to Substack
Carter Wrenn and I are moving to Substack.
That’s where you’ll find our blogs in the future, instead of on this website.
Carter’s blog is at talkingaboutpolitics.substack.com
Mine will be at garypearcenc.substack.com
There’s nothing on mine yet. Stay tuned, because I’ll be making changes in what I blog about.
If you get our emails now, you’ll keep getting them. If you don’t, you can sign up to get them.
Substack has become a popular platform for many blogs, newsletters and podcasts.
It’s easy to use, and we can reach more readers.
We started blogging here at Talking About Politics more than 20 years ago, in 2005.
We had been political adversaries since the Hunt-Helms Senate race in 1984. We first met when we negotiated rules for the campaign debates, along with Phil Carlton for Hunt and Tom Ellis for Helms.
When we looked across the table at each other, we saw an enemy.
But we came to respect one another.
In 2002, we worked together on a bipartisan issue campaign. We enjoyed it, and we enjoyed talking about books, history, religion, our families, our backgrounds and – yes – politics.
Helping us in that campaign was a North Carolinian, Mathew Gross, who was an early pioneer in online politics.
After listening to our war stories about past campaigns, he said, “You guys should do a blog.”
Carter asked, “what’s a blog?”
Mathew explained, and Carter came up with the name Talking About Politics.
We’ve been talking and blogging ever since, and we’ll keep on at Substack.
Follow us over there.
