Anyone surprised that five Democratic House members voted for the Republican budget has forgotten that no animal in the wild has a more finely honed survival instinct than a politician.
The media has reported the budget goodies the “Party of Five” received. And there is talk about Jim Crawford getting an Appropriations chairmanship, etc, etc.
But the Five’s real reward is yet to come: redistricting.
While Democrats like Grier Martin, Jennifer Weiss and Deborah Ross may end up in the same district, you can bet the Five will fare just fine.
And if they face a mortal threat in the Democratic primary, they can just become Republicans.
All of which means the Five may vote to override all gubernatorial vetoes from now on.
