Trump on Abortion

Years ago the Supreme Court made abortion legal – after that there were no limits on abortion the first trimester (12 weeks) of pregnancy, some limits on abortion in the second trimester, and, in the third trimester states could prohibit abortions.

Back then conservatives, believing a fetus was a living being, called themselves ‘pro-life,’ said taking an innocent life was wrong. When the current Supreme Court ended Roe v. Wade, Ron DeSantis passed a bill in Florida prohibiting abortion after 6 weeks – when a fetal heartbeat could be heard.

On Meet the Press Kristen Welker asked Trump what he’d do about abortion – would he ban abortion after six weeks or 15 weeks? Trump blasted DeSantis, said six weeks was too little, 15 weeks was too much, he’d come down somewhere in the middle.

That’s politics: Abortion’s no longer a fight to protect an innocent life – it’s a fight over how long it should be legal to take an innocent life.
