It was a long dry trek across an arid desert, reading through newspaper after newspaper looking for one editorial with a kind word to say about Donald Trump denying Muslim’s visas.
Trump, the greatest newspaper editors roared, has torn the Constitution to shreds.
Trump has desecrated America’s finest virtues.
Trump is lower than pond scum.
The howls rolled on and on until, when I was about to give up, I spotted one lone editorial by Larry Ludlow.
This is not my usual stand, Kudlow wrote. I have been an immigration reformer, not a restrictionist. But we are at war. And that changes everything.
He’d hit the nail on the head.
Back in 1942 who’d have given a second thought to denying a German a visa? Somehow, seventy years later, pulling up the drawbridge and securing the castle has turned into an act of malign bigotry – and the editorial writers are howling.
And the more they howl the more Trump rises in the polls.
