Inside word is that the Obama campaign is targeting 24 states – for now. And North Carolina is one of them.

If 24 states end up being competitive in November, this is going to be a landslide for Obama and the Democrats.

If he stays active in North Carolina, it’s good news for Kay Hagan and Bev Perdue. And they need good news.

Hagan is lagging badly – in polls and in money. Her only hope may be an Obama landslide.

Perdue is doing well in money, but not as well as she should be in polls.

Is there a hidden gender bias here? Do North Carolinians think a woman’s place may be in the Senate but not the Governor’s Mansion?

Perdue angered many Clinton supporters by endorsing Obama in the primary. But will he help or hurt her in the fall?

And will 24 states really be in play, or will the campaign – as it usually does – come down to the usual handful of suspects, like Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania and Colorado?
