It’s odd. Trump’s facing a lawsuit and two investigations that could end in lawsuits but when he was indicted for paying a porn star hush money and covering it up the Republicans running against him like DeSantis and Pence didn’t murmur a critical word about Trump – they defended him. I guess that was politically clever. But shouldn’t right or wrong matter more than clever?

So far, only one – possible – candidate has stood up to Trump. When Trump told Trumpsters ‘I’m your retribution’ – Chris Christie warned, ‘That’s baloney.’ Christie also warned: ‘I think Trump is the only Republican Biden can beat.’  

That’s not politically clever. But it is straight-talk – and you don’t hear much of that from politicians these days.
