Round 1: Dalton vs. McCrory

First the Republicans called Walter Dalton ‘Bev Perdue, Jr.’ Then the Democrats called Pat McCrory a skunk who as Mayor of Charlotte lobbied to get government money for a company that paid him $140,000.

Then McCrory’s lawyers threatened to rain legal mayhem on the TV stations if they ran the Democrats’ slanderous ad, and Walter Dalton challenged McCrory to ‘disavow the race baiting ads’ about Obama and the Reverend Jeremiah Wright that McCrory’s media consultants had asked a Chicago billionaire to give them $10 million to air during the Democratic Convention.

And that’s when Round 1 of the Governor’s race ended.

How did Pat McCrory do?

Bev Perdue’s unpopularity is due to her character and it’s hard to prove Walter Dalton has the exact same character flaws as Perdue. For instance, Perdue ‘chirrups.’ Dalton doesn’t.

And what about Dalton?

He says Pat McCrory used his office to make money and what happens next depends on the answer to a straightforward question: Is that true? If it is the Governor’s race is about to turn into a horserace. If it’s not, Walter Dalton’s race for Governor may be over before he reaches the end of Round 2.
