Priorities, Priorities

A TAPster notes a striking example of where the state spends and where it cuts:

“Did the Jones Street Honorables notice a political paradox during their recent visit to Raleigh?

“Just a city block away from the Legislative Building, work is concluding on the construction of several gleaming new state government buildings and parking decks. They truly are beautiful, and the construction sites have been buzzing as dozens of delivery trucks disgorged new office equipment and supplies, and traffic backed up for several nights while workers blocked lanes to safely install elegant, marble curbing  in front of these buildings.

“Hence the paradox.

“Jobs were created for grateful workers to build and deliver those desks, laborers were happy to be on their knees installing that beautiful curbing, and stonecutters were pleased for the chance to carve the curbing. State government created jobs and economic growth with its own spending.

“It just seems odd that this job creation occurred at the same time the state fired school teachers and snatched eye glasses off the faces of the indigent to balance its budget.”
