Obama’s Bombshell

It’s one thing to be a political rock star. It’s another thing to turn stardom into real money. And Barack Obama did it.

Obama proved he’s for real when he raised almost as much money as Hillary Clinton in the first quarter – $25 million.

Obama’s showing jolted Hillary’s campaign – and John Edwards’.

As I’ve said before, money isn’t everything in presidential politics. If Edwards, for example, can win an early state like Iowa or Nevada, the tidal wave of news coverage can overwhelm a better-financed candidate.

But Obama’s fundraising answered one question: Is he just a lot of flash? No, he’s also a lot of cash.

He and his team showed they have the discipline, organizational ability and reach to compete with Hillary and win.

The question remains: Does Obama have what it takes to survive the coming onslaught from his opponents and the media?

On the stump, he has adopted a smooth, soothing, low-key style. He’s offering a contrast to hot, divisive politics.

So now the question is: Is he Bambi – or Rambo?
