Last election President Obama’s Job Approval Rating defined how people voted – if you thought Obama was doing just fine (or sort of fine) you voted Democratic, if you didn’t think he was doing so fine you voted Republican (unless you were an independent or Democrat who’d voted for Obama in 2008 – then, most likely you just stayed home and didn’t vote at all).
Two weeks ago, Obama’s job approval was -3%. Now it’s plus 18%. A 21 point swing. In the blink of an eye Obama sinking into political quicksand changed into Obama rising.
Of course pundits on the right are saying it’s a bump not a trend but the ‘overnight’ change proves one thing: Those job approval/disapproval numbers Republicans coasted to victory on last November are not set in stone.
