McCain’s Only Hope

The low road is the only road to the White House for John McCain. So he’s riding it hard.

Mr. Straight-Talk-Let’s-Clean-Up-Politics has shed the last shred of his old skin. He’s turned his campaign over to the Karl Rove snakes who slimed George W. Bush’s old enemies – John Kerry and, oh yes, John McCain in South Carolina in 2000.

Don’t say the old McCain dog can’t learn new tricks.

McCain’s positive message – bomb Iran and drill everywhere – isn’t working. So he’s turned to the negative: Obama is too popular; he’s too idealistic; even, he’s too thin and fit.

Just think how bad it would be to have a President who is popular in Europe. Like, say, a Dwight Eisenhower or a John Kennedy.

Or a President who is idealistic. Like an FDR or a Ronald Reagan.

Or skinny. Like an Abe Lincoln.

No, we can’t have any of that in America.

We clearly need an overweight, unpopular old guy who has no ideals and no optimism. Like John McCain.
