Job Killers

Yesterday I gave Republican legislators credit for a fast start. Today I wonder whether they picked the right fight to start with.

Republicans say they were elected to cut spending. But Democrats denounced “the Republican job killing plan.”

That’s “job killing” as in Obama’s “job killing health care reform.” Democrats already are getting into the swing of being obstreperous obstructionists.

This comment by Republican Rep. Harold Brubaker is interesting: “Some people will say this fundamentally changes North Carolina. I say: It’s a new day.”

Well, it is for the politicians. But the general public isn’t so caught up in Raleigh’s party change. For them, it’s the same old economy. And they’re for jobs.

Vetoing the bill could be a win-win for Governor Perdue. If the legislature overrides the veto, she can blame Republicans for killing jobs. If the legislature can’t override her, she gets stronger.
