The strategy is brilliant. It’s aimed at the most important voting group today: women living in metropolitan areas and suburbs. Especially women with children. Especially college-educated women.
Poll after poll has shown that these women are the key swing voters in American politics today. Most men are rigid in their party preferences. More women listen to both sides.
This group of women has replaced the old “ticket-splitters” – Democrats who started voting Republican in the 60s and 70s. As Carter has noted, that was the World War II generation. Many of them were men who were Democrats because of Franklin D. Roosevelt, but started turning Republican in the post-Vietnam, Cold War, culture-war era. But that group is dying off today. In fact, some sources say 1,000 members of that generation die every day in

Yes, I know a lot of my male friends tell me their wives don’t like Hillary. But I suspect more than a few of them will secretly cast their votes for a woman President.
