Here is the latest sighting of the Most Overused Cliché in Political Reporting.



CNN’s coverage of the Iowa race early Tuesday morning was bannered: “Race Heating Up.”



Reporters especially love using “heating up” when the weather is snowy and below zero. As in:



“It may be cold and snowy here in Iowa, but the race for President is heating up nevertheless. Back to you, Wolf.”
