Bad Sign

Whenever a politician or party talks about “mobilizing the base” in the final weeks of a campaign, you know they’re in trouble.

That’s exactly where President Obama and the Democrats are, as this story from the New York Times noted:

“With four weeks until Congressional elections that will shape the remainder of his term, President Obama is increasingly focused on generating enthusiasm within the base that helped put him in the White House two years ago, from college students to African-Americans.”

By this point in a campaign, you want your base fired up and ready to go – so you can target independents and force your opponents to defend their base.

This is a one more sign of the tough year Democrats face.
