A Dickens Novel
February 9, 2012 - by
Last Monday Mitt Romney was on top of the world. Everything was coming up roses – then on Tuesday night Rick Santorum swept Colorado, Missouri and Minnesota.
This may be too simple an explanation of what happened but if you take Newt Gingrich’s votes in Minnesota and Colorado and give them to Santorum, Santorum would have won those two states with 56% and 53% of the vote respectively. Newt wasn’t on the ballot in Missouri which Santorum won with 55%. Beating Romney by over 30%.
Whatever the reason for Santorum’s unexpected surge for sheer melodrama this year’s Republican primaries are hard to beat. Newt’s up. Newt’s down. Santorum’s up. Romney’s up. Newt’s up again. Romney’s back on top. Santorum whips Romney.
There’re more plot twists in these primaries than a Dickens novel.
