The News Lately

Let’s take a look at what’s been in the news.

On X, a Trump post included a photo of a billboard with his picture on it beside five words: Trump was right about EVERYTHING.

DHHS Secretary Bobby Kennedy issued a report telling us how to improve our healthcare – but there was a problem: The report was based on studies that didn’t exist. One doctor, a professor, author of one of the studies, said she didn’t write it.

President Trump swatted Taylor Swift again – which seemed natural, she’d supported Kamala Harris; but then he called the Federalist Society’s Leonard Leo a ‘sleazebag’ – which seemed odd. Leo had helped Trump pick Supreme Court judges.

A neighbor told me honeybees were all but extinct – then a truck loaded with beehives rolling down a highway in Oregon crashed into a ditch – and I read 250 million honeybees escaped. 250 million sounds a long way from extinct.

Trump remodeled the Oval Office – standing beside him, staring up at the ceiling, Elon Musk said he loved the new gold filigree. Smiling, Trump handed Musk a gold key. Six days later on social media Trump and Musk spent the day punching each other like a pair of juveniles.

Trump’s ‘always right,’ deceptions, insults, gold filigree, juveniles. The news was bleak. But there was a ray of light: A 700-pound boulder rolling down a hill in Alaska pinned a hiker to the ground, lying in the bed of a shallow creek. Hours later, a helicopter rescued him. He stood up and walked away unharmed – a kind of miracle.
