Healing Wounds

Instead of going to college Joe Kent joined the army at 18; a Ranger, Green Beret, did 11 combat tours.

Stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia he met Shannon Smith, also a soldier – they married, had two children. Five years later on a street in Syria an Isis terrorist walked toward four soldiers, ignited a hidden bomb strapped to his chest – a fireball killed Shannon, 18 other people.

A single father with two children, his world upended, Joe Kent left the Army – embracing MAGA started writing columns for Breitbart News, appearing on Fox News with Tucker Carlson – running for Congress in 2022, echoed Trump saying Biden stole the 2020 election. Won the primary, lost the general election. Lost a second time in 2024.

Trump nominated Joe Kent to head the National Counterterrorism Center; waiting for Senate confirmation Kent worked as chief of staff for Tulsi Gabbard, director of national intelligence – got hit by a curveball: The White House asked for a report to prove the Maduro regime in Venezuela controlled the Tren de Aragua gang.

The report intelligence officers sent Kent said Maduro didn’t control the gang. Kent asked an intelligence officer to do a revised report – when the second report contradicted Trump, Tulsi Gabbard fired the intelligence officer – after he’d worked for the CIA for decades.

That’s a picture of how Washington works today.

Back before last year’s election Trump railed about Biden using the government as a political weapon – against him. He had a point. Biden crossed lines. But Trump’s now marching down the same road, doing the same thing – when he could be healing wounds.
