A Democrat to Watch
No, Trump’s blitzkrieg hasn’t left Democrats hapless, hopeless and rudderless.
Here’s one example of the immense talent on the Democratic team: Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut.
He caught my attention with several recent posts @ChrisMurphyCT:
“Yesterday Trump unveiled his priorities for his tax bill…. It’s a massive tax giveaway to the rich and powerful, financed by deadly cuts to programs like Medicare and the ACA that help regular people.”
“The decimation of USAID is all about the billionaire corruption of our government. Elon Musk and other billionaires who make money in China want to keep China happy, and nothing makes China happier than USAID, a major thorn in the side to Beijing, being erased from the world.”
“I think we cannot win back lower income voters if we don’t prove to people we are willing to dismantle the existing economic order. We are doomed if we just run it back.”
“Just what people voted for – an end to cancer research.”
“Today I will be holding a citizen meeting in West Hartford to talk about what I’m doing and what people can do to fight back against Trump’s seizure of government for the billionaire class.”
(He listed nine things you can do.)
“If you really listen to MAGA, you see they have no ideas except two: (1) self-enrichment (and the destruction of anything that impedes self-enrichment) (2) kill anything Democrats are for because, by definition, anything Democrats support – like preventing famine – must be evil.”
“This is authoritarian shit. Trump is opening up an investigation (boilerplate government harassment) of a TV station simply because it was covering ICE deportations. When the regime decides what is news and what isn’t, you’re not in a democracy anymore.”
He joined an all-night filibuster against Trump’s nominee to head of the Office of Management and Budget:
“I spent three hours, from 2am to 5am, on the floor last night protesting the nomination of Russ Vought, the architect of the plan to destroy democratic protections and hand over our government to the billionaires and corporations.”
With Republicans in control in Washington, Democrats in Congress have to delay, defy, debate, denounce, disrupt and drag the Trump Republicans’ dirty laundry into public view.
Murphy is just one warrior waging war. There are many more across the country.
That bodes well for 2026 and 2028.
It also shows, sadly, that our country wouldn’t be in this mess if President Biden had stepped aside earlier and allowed us to have an open contest for the 2024 presidential nomination.
A strong candidate would have emerged, and he or she would’ve beaten Trump.
Instead, we’re in dark times.
It’s time to let our stars rise and shine.
