The Thom Tillis Twist

Senator Thom Tillis twisted himself into contortions with this tweet last week:

“Huge news for Wilmington, the Department of Transportation will be awarding $242 million to replace the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge! I was proud to advocate for the project to @SecretaryPete on behalf of North Carolina and co-author and help get the bipartisan infrastructure package signed into law to provide funding.”

Tillis took great pains to avoid mentioning that money for the bridge came from President Biden’s 2021 infrastructure bill.

For four years as President, Trump promised that “Infrastructure Week” was forthcoming.

It finally came – in the first year of Biden’s presidency.

Tillis at least voted for the bill. Most Republicans didn’t.

North Carolina’s other Senator, Ted Budd, who was in the House at the time, voted no. He called the bill a “liberal trojan horse for a socialist agenda.”

Maybe the trojan horse can cross the Cape Fear on the new bridge.

I get why Tillis takes credit for the money, but gives no credit to President Biden. Trump-MAGA Republicans already call him a RINO.

He’s afraid Mark Robinson will lose the governor’s race and run against him in the 2026 Senate primary.

So, Tillis no doubt will be at the Republican National Convention this week kissing Trump’s – uh – ring.

There’s no telling what contortions that will take.
