Crossing the Line

The first time Trump said, ‘The election was stolen,’ I thought it was his vanity speaking – afraid he’d be seen as a ‘loser’ he spun a tale.

But Trump said it so often, over and over, and so many people – like Rudy Giuliani – told him he was right, he came to believe it. After that he took another step, and another, and now he faces Special Prosecutor Jack Smith’s looming January 6th lawsuit.

To stop Smith, defending himself, Trump declared: “I have a right to protest an election that I am fully convinced was rigged and stolen.”

He’s right. He does.

But Trump went a step beyond protest. In swing states – like Georgia – he tried to replace Biden Presidential Electors with Trump Electors.

It’s a story we’ve seen before. Spinning tales has consequences: Trump crossed the line. And chickens flew home to roost.
