Whoops!

The morning newspaper was a blow to Obama supporters and the legions of young people who just voted for change: Because in the Obama administration, lobbyists are in.

Back during the campaign Obama excoriated lobbyists by saying, “They won’t find a job in my White House” – but his post-election transition team is welcoming them with open arms, with the merest fig-leaf for cover: According to former Clinton Chief of Staff and Obama transition guru John Podesta, lobbyists are welcome to work for Obama except in a policy area they’ve lobbied in over the past year.

Now, don’t you know the whizzes on K Street will blow past that fig leaf in about five seconds. Imagine this: Joe, who lobbies for insurance companies, says to Katy, who lobbies for pharmaceuticals, ‘Let’s swap out, you take my area, I’ll take yours – then you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.’

It looks like – to an admittedly biased observer – Obama’s crusade for change only outlasted the election by eight days.
