The Democratic Satanists in Durham are going on trial: According to the first hearing they’ve been “channeling demons” and, naturally, met through the Internet. For those who deny the occult, the defense attorney has a different explanation. He says there are no evil spirits on the loose in Durham – just a few people practicing modern, everyday, “consensual sadomasochism” gone awry.
It almost takes superstition to explain what’s happening in the governor’s race. Beverly Perdue has raised $9.9 million to Pat McCrory’s $2.2 million. And the gap’s widening. Last quarter Perdue rolled in $2.3 million to McCrory’s $1.1 million. And where does North Carolina business stand? PACs gave Perdue $223,436 and McCrory only a hard-to-believe $450. Surely there are no evil spirits at work statewide either but, if there were, Republicans might be tempted to conclude Mammon is a Democrat.
