Women on Top

At lunch last week with a group of knowledgeable media and political types, I asked this question: Has any state in the country ever had women simultaneously occupy its top three elected offices – governor and both U.S. Senate seats?
Because North Carolina could this year: Governor Bev Perdue, Senator Kay Hagan and – possibly – Senator Elaine Marshall.
No one at lunch could think of another state where that has happened. Maybe a reader will know (and save me the time and trouble of doing research. I’m not getting paid for this, you know.)
Maybe Elaine Marshall should play the gender card in her race. A lot of women voters may feel like it’s time to take control and clean up the mess the guys have made.
