What I Did on My Summer Vacation

Probably nobody ever cares what you did on your vacation. But here it is anyway.

We spent a week in Paris and saw most everything, including Notre Dame, the Louvre, Shakespeare & Co. bookstore, the Marais, the French military museum (I didn’t know it was DeGaulle who won the war!), big crowds at the Eiffel Tower, big crowds at Versailles (where I understood why they had the Revolution), Pere Lachaise cemetery (including graves of Oscar Wilde, Gertrude Stein and Jim Morrison) and Bon Marche, just to name a few highlights.

We spent three days in Normandy and visited the D-Day beaches, battle sites throughout the hedgerow country and the American, British and German cemeteries. Stunning and sobering.

We went to Mt. St-Michelle and climbed to the top of the abbey. We took the TGV train back to Paris (now I get high-speed rail).

We ate and drank a lot. We walked a lot. We had a great time. We didn’t strangle each other.

It’s great to be back.
