Waiting

It’s a rule of political thumb: the longer it takes a potential candidate to decide whether to run, the more likely the answer will be no.

Still, North Carolina Democrats sit and wait while Erskine Bowles sits and ponders.

And time’s a’wasting. The primary is in three months, the election in nine.

There are at least two million reasons Democrats are waiting for go or no-go from Bowles. That’s how much money Pat McCrory has. And he doesn’t have a primary. At least Walter Dalton and Bill Faison start with some money.

Look at the math: To raise $2 million in two months, you have to raise more than $33,000 a day – every day, weekends and holidays included. That’s eight max-out contributions a day. Or 33 $1,000 contributions. Every day.

That’s why name recognition means nothing now, and that’s why most Democrats don’t stand a chance. Anybody who gets in now needs access to ready cash.
