Trump’s trysts and twists

Which is worse – that Trump hopped in bed with Stormy or that he’s still in bed with Putin?

Stormy and Putin have a lot in common. Both show off their chests. Both stories involve thugs. Both might involve illegal campaign activities. And Trump hasn’t said a bad word about either Stormy or Putin.

Stormy’s story is titillating. (Sorry. Can’t resist.) The Putin story is serious business.

A big problem with Trump is that the outrages come so fast and furious it’s easy to forgot what happened last week – and what’s important.

Last week, if you’ll recall, Trump called Putin and congratulated him on his (crooked) reelection. This was after Trump’s national security team cautioned him: “DO NOT CONGRATULATE.”

Sarah Huckabee Sanders waved it all away:

“We don’t get to dictate how other countries operate. What we do know is Putin has been elected in their country, and that’s not something that we can dictate to them, how they operate. We can only focus on the freeness and the fairness of our elections.”

Here’s what Sen. John McCain said to that:

“An American president does not lead the Free World by congratulating dictators on winning sham elections. And by doing so with Vladimir Putin, President Trump insulted every Russian citizen who was denied the right to vote in a free and fair election to determine their country’s future, including the countless Russian patriots who have risked so much to protest and resist Putin’s regime.”

Too often, the Trump spectacle blinds us to what truly makes America Great.
