Trump + Mamdani
The last time a “fascist” and a “communist” were this chummy, they divided up Poland.
This time, President Trump and New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani shook up politics.
Trump had called Mamdani a “communist lunatic.”
The mayor-to-be had called the President a “fascist” and “despot.”
But love was in bloom when the two met Friday.
They talked about their shared love for New York City and concern about high prices.
Both are outsiders who challenged their parties’ establishments – and won.
Both appeal to voters who feel abandoned and betrayed by today’s politics, including young voters.
Conventional wisdom in politics is always that conventional things will happen.
We expect what happened before to happen again.
But nobody expected Trump in 2016 – or expected the capital of capitalism to elect a democratic socialist in 2025.
In 2026 and 2028, expect the unexpected.
