Trump Disasters
While deadly floods hit Texas and North Carolina, Trump is gutting the National Weather Service, gutting FEMA and aggravating climate change, which causes more calamitous storms.
He golfs while Americans drown.
A headline in the Guardian said, “Deadly floods could be new normal as Trump guts federal agencies, experts warn.”
Talking about the Texas disaster that killed over 100 people, including at least 27 young girls and their counselors at Camp Mystic, an emergency management specialist said:
“This is the exact kind of storm that meteorologists, climate scientists, emergency management experts have been talking about and warning about for decades at this point, and there’s absolutely no reason that this won’t happen in other parts of the country. This is what happens when you let climate change run unabated and break apart the emergency management system – without investing in that system at the local and state level.”
Then there’s Senator Ted Cruz. In the Senate last week, he made sure Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” slashed funding for weather forecasting. When the flooding hit Texas Friday, he was on vacation in Greece. Saturday, he toured the Parthenon in Athens. He flew home Sunday.
Natural disasters are bad enough. Trump, Cruz and all the Republicans in Congress who voted for the Big Beautiful Bill are compounding the damage.
Now the Supreme Court has given Trump the power to lay off hundreds of thousands of federal employees at the departments of agriculture, commerce, health and human services, state, treasury, veterans affairs and other agencies.
Even worse disasters lie ahead for the American people.
