The Word Is ‘Extreme’

I’m told that flustered Democrats in the legislature don’t seem to understand they’re not still in charge – and don’t know how to act as the minority.
They could take a cue from no less a message maven than Senator Chuck Schumer of New York.
This week, according to The New York Times, a number of reporters awaiting a conference call with Schumer and other Senate Democrats overheard him coaching his colleagues:
“Mr. Schumer told them to portray John A. Boehner of Ohio, the speaker of the House, as painted into a box by the Tea Party, and to decry the spending cuts that he wants as extreme. ‘I always use the word extreme,’ Mr. Schumer said.”
Schumer, who steered Senate Democrats’ 2006 victories, is always famously on-message. And the message is always backed up by good polling.
So listen up, Democrats: Budget cuts? “Extreme.” Voter ID bill? “Extreme.” Gun laws? “Extreme.” How do you like your coffee? “Extreme.”
Don’t you feel better already?
