The War Over Women

Often in politics it’s your friends – not your enemies – who do you the most damage.
Democrats were on a roll with the Republican “war on women.” Then a Democratic operative, Hillary Rosen, let slip a comment that some people heard as a “war on moms.”
Rule One, as President Obama observed, is: Never attack the candidate’s wife.
What’s interesting is how this firestorm swept up more people than any debate about tax or budget policy. That’s a sign of how much politics today revolves around cultural, social, moral and – yes – racial attitudes.
Those are the real battle lines in this war.
