The Un-Making of John McCain
John McCain reminds me of an old calendar that is still hanging on the wall.
McCain was a phenom in 2000. Today he’s a tired old face. As his campaign falters, he begins to look more and more like a bitter, beaten man.
His first-quarter fundraising was so bad his campaign didn’t even try to put lipstick on the pig. They admitted the finance operation was a mess, and they promised to retool the entire campaign. Not good.
Then he made a fool of himself in
It turns out that even the merchants in the market don’t buy that. They say McCain was safe only because he was protected by 100 American solders, hovering helicopters and a traffic blockade. Plus, he wore body armor.
McCain used to be refreshingly unlike George Bush. Now, as he tries more and more to be like the Bush who beat him, he looks just as clueless.
He doesn’t have the life and vitality he had before. He can’t recapture the old magic. His time has passed.
Stick a fork in him. He’s done.
