The Saga of Bob Etheridge
September 20, 2011 - by
Last fall Congressman Bob Etheridge lost his re-election bid and suddenly – after thirty-two years in public office – found himself out of a job. But only for a month. The nimble Congressman quickly landed himself a new job (earning $98,500) as North Carolina’s ‘Economic Stimulus Czar’ passing out President Obama’s ‘Economic Stimulus Funds.’ Then the Stimulus Funds began to run out and with the end of his second job in sight the wily Congressman pulled another rabbit out of the hat. He landed a new job (earning the same salary) as Governor Perdue’s ‘Czar’ passing out Hurricane Irene money – which led one frustrated Republican to quip, What on earth do we have to do to get Bob Etheridge off the public payroll?
