The Return of Slavery
The New York Times wrote a story telling how a man bought a twelve year old girl as a sex slave, tied her, gagged her, knelt by the bed, prayed, then stood over her and explained how, because she was a heathen, raping her was going to bring him closer to God.
The Yazidis – the girl was a Yazidi – worship the Peacock Angel; when ISIS overran their villages in northern Iraq it captured thousands of women and used them not as plunder (in the way armies usually do) but to recreate slavery as a formal institution in its Caliphate with state sponsored slave markets and formal contracts, which brought young men flocking to the Caliphate to join ISIS army.
A fifteen year old girl told the Times how as her family fled their village into the mountains of Northern Iraq their Opal overheated and broke down and, as they stood by the road staring at the smoking car, they were surrounded by ISIS soldiers. The soldiers separated the men from the women and took the men away (to be killed) then took her to Mosul to a dining hall, packed with a thousand other women, where she was told she was now a slave.
Before the auction buyers were sent pictures of the women labeled numbered Sabaya (or slave) No. 1, Sabaya No. 2, and Sabaya No. 3 then the women were marched into ‘showing rooms’ then each girl was taken, one by one, into a separate room and told to stand and turn around a circle as the buyers asked her questions.
Buyers were also provided an ISIS manual (for slave owners) that explained that under the Quran it was even “permissible to have intercourse with a female slave who has not reached puberty, if she is fit for intercourse.”
Slavery and abused women are ancient sins but we have our first African-American President sitting in the White House, who understands slavery – so why can’t he bring himself to do what needs to be done to destroy ISIS?
