There was no “red tsunami,” no wave. Barely a ripple.

Before the 2022 election, Republicans boasted they would deliver a 1994- or 2010-like shellacking to a Democratic President.

Inflation was up. President Biden’s approval ratings were down. Voters were down on the economy and down about the direction of the country.

But Biden had the best presidential mid-term performance since FDR.

Republicans had three big problems: Trump, MAGA and abortion.

Trump is toxic. He now has cost Republicans three straight elections. Will 2024 be the fourth?

Also toxic is the MAGA mob of Capitol-attackers, Ku Kluxers, QAnoners, cosplay Confederates, right-wing cultists, pedo-conspiracists, knuckleheads, neo-Nazis, Pelosi trolls, lib-owners and election-deniers.

And abortion was crucial.

Before the election, Republican consultants told reporters that abortion was no worry.

Why, then, did their candidates scramble to scrub what they had said and done on abortion?

Trump may or may not be on the ballot in 2024.

Democrats should make sure that MAGA and abortion are.
