The New Face of Journalism

Mark Binker is not necessarily a pretty face. But he’s the face of where journalism is going in North Carolina. And that looks like good news.

Binker is former capital reporter for The Greensboro News & Record. He has left to work for WRAL-TV. That’s a story right there.

TV political/governmental news used to be viewed as having all the depth and breadth of your fingernail. But WRAL is changing that – with its investigative coverage, with Laura Leslie’s work and now with Binker.

Exhibit A: Binker’s lengthy and comprehensive analysis of the facts in the Perdue vs. Legislature fight over whether the Republican budget cuts teachers.  As I read it, the analysis concludes that the answer is yes. Read it here for yourself. And take heart in where North Carolina journalism is going.
