The Eye of the Beholder

Yesterday I wrote about how one of my Republican friend’s is convinced to pay for Obamacare the Democrats are going to slash Medicare $500 billion – by kicking old people off their respirators; then, the next morning, I opened the newspaper and right there on page one was a Democrat who had a pretty odd idea of his own about the Wake County School Board.
Chairman of the Democratic Party David Young has gotten himself so worked up and in a tizzy about the Republicans on the Wake County School Board ending forced busing that he’s convinced himself the Republicans have a pretty odd and sinister motivation. The vile Republicans, Young told the newspaper, don’t just want to end forced busing – they want to deny Raleigh school children their share of the American Dream.
Then in the next breath Chairman Young’s fevered brain leaped again and he declared – flat out – that Republicans ending forced busing could lead to a property tax increase.
How on earth can that be?
Well, it is simple: The way Chairman Young sees it if the Republicans in Raleigh don’t do what Democrats in Raleigh want then the Democrats in Washington are going to defund Raleigh’s schools – which means property taxes will go up.
So here’s the political world seen through David Young’s eyes: Republicans are blackguards out to deny third graders the American Dream. And, beyond that, it sounds like Chairman Young’s gotten himself so worked up he’s come pretty close to threatening voters, saying either they vote out the Republicans this fall or the Democrats in Washington are going to defund the schools – so we’ll all be paying higher property taxes.
That’s one more – somewhat odd – example of how politics works.
