Talk about a fellow coming up a day late and a dollar short.
Sunday there was a picture in the newspaper of John Edwards standing beside his ‘P.R. specialist’ in front of the courthouse where he’d just been indicted.
Unfortunately for Edwards restoring his dented image is beyond the arts of the cleverest ‘P.R.’ wizard. What he needs is more along the lines of divine intervention.
The Justice Department says Edwards violated elections laws, spending a million dollars of Fred Baron’s and ‘Bunny’ Mellon’s money to keep his affair with Rielle Hunter (whose real name is Lisa Jo Druck) secret from voters.
Edwards says ‘not so’ – that he spent the million dollars to keep his affair secret from his wife.
At lunch yesterday when Richard, the intellectual, read that he said, He should have read his wife’s book.
It seems in Resilience Elizabeth Edwards wrote her husband told her of his affair in December of 2006 – long before he spent the million dollars to keep it a secret.
I watched Richard thinking Edwards may try to slip around that by saying he had two affairs with Hunter – one he told his wife about and another, later, but then old Will Patton raised an even tougher question, saying, If I was prosecuting this case I’d only ask John Edwards one question: If you wanted was to keep your affair a secret from your wife why on earth did you run for President?
Richard thought that over and said: He might not testify.
Mr. Patton snorted, You couldn’t keep that fellow off the witness stand with a shotgun.
