Republicans we love
Trump has accomplished one thing. He’s made Democrats love Republicans we used to loathe.
Remember demonic warmonger George W. Bush? Now he’s lovable, artistic George, a goofy but compassionate conservative. George H.W.? A veritable statesman. John McCain, the hateful Palin-picker from 2008? A true American hero. Mitt Romney, the 47 percenter from 2012? A fine fellow indeed.
Hell, Trump makes us miss Reagan. Even Nixon. At least he had the decency to resign. And Eisenhower? Start carving on Mount Rushmore!
We even get misty for John Boehner. Trey Gowdy, the scourge of Benghazi, is now the defender of truth and justice. Even Richard Burr and Thom Tillis look some days like they might stand up to Trump. (We’ll see when Mueller is done.)
Then there’s Newt Gingrich and Rudy Giuliani.
Well, we have our limits.
