Reality Check
Political insiders always overestimate how much attention voters are paying to campaigns.
Here was my reality check this week. I was talking to a fellow who does some work at my house. He’s a bright guy, a hard worker, successful in his trade, devoted to his family and his dogs.
He knows I do something in politics. So he asked me: “What’s going on with the Democrats?”
Not knowing where this was going, I proceeded cautiously: “What do you mean?”
“Well, I saw they were doing something this week,” he said, sounding a bit uncertain. “Some kind of meeting.”
I offered: “You mean their national convention?”
“Yeah, that’s it.” He paused a minute. “What is it they’re doing there?”
Good question. Let me get back to you.
