The Democrat most responsible for Joe Biden being President thinks Governor Roy Cooper would be a good presidential candidate in 2028.

In an interview with Politico, (“The Man Who Saved Biden’s 2020 Campaign Lets Loose”), South Carolina Congressman Jim Clyburn (photo) names five possible nominees: Vice President Kamala Harris, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Cooper.

Clyburn said, “I don’t know what’s going to happen between now and then, but the governor of North Carolina — Governor [Roy] Cooper — I think is a really, really good governor. He is a guy that I would keep my eyes on, if I were you guys in the media.”

Clyburn made a crucial endorsement of Biden in February 2020, which led to Biden winning the South Carolina primary, sweeping Super Tuesday (including North Carolina), uniting the party and unseating Trump.

After nearly two terms as governor, Cooper is the most popular politician in North Carolina. His 50%-plus approval rating is remarkable in these polarized times.

He’s low-key, without the gnawing ambition of most politicians. He brushes off speculation about his future.

But if he helps Democrats win North Carolina this year, Congressman Clyburn won’t be the only person looking at Cooper for 2028.
