I’m old-fashioned enough not to have much faith in these new ‘automated telephone polls’ that the Democrats at Public Policy Polling do, but you have to give them credit – those polls have turned their company into a P.R. juggernaut. They’re in the newspaper just about every day.
Their latest poll on the Democratic Governor’s race (post-Perdue) was in the paper the other morning and, if it’s correct, you have to wonder if the Democrats haven’t sailed away into cloud cuckoo land.
The leading choice for Democrats in their primary is none other than Bob ‘Head Lock’ Etheridge – the former Congressman who blew himself out of office last election because he head-locked a student who asked him if he supported Obama’s policies – while another student filmed it on a cell phone.
The video went viral and ended Etheridge’s career in Congress and now the Democrats want him to run for Governor and send that video viral statewide.
Bev Perdue was so unpopular when she stepped aside it looked like almost any candidate the Democrats choose would be an improvement – but they’ve landed on the one candidate with more baggage than Perdue.
Over the years Republicans have said a lot of unkind things about Democratic candidates in North Carolina. Flip-flopper. Double-talker. Crook. But if PPP’s poll is a sign of things to come Republicans won’t have to say a thing this time. We just have to play that video.
