Perdue in Peril?
It’s a sure sign of an anxious campaign when the manager releases internal polls.
That’s what Zach Ambrose had to do this week for Bev Perdue after a WTVD poll showed her trailing. That came on the heels of the Carville-Greenberg poll.
Perdue’s campaign released a memo from Garin-Hart-Yang, the campaign’s pollsters, showing Perdue ahead 46-40.
The poll – taken last Friday through Sunday – also showed McCain leading Obama here 49-46 and Liddy Dole leading Kay Hagan 48-46.
The question, of course, is whether there was a big Republican bounce after the poll was taken.
Ambrose’s email also pointed to a Public Policy Polling survey that showed her leading only 41-40.
Regardless of the exact numbers, the Perdue campaign is anxious. Her debate performances don’t help. She struggles with Pat McCrory’s attacks linking her to everything bad in
He has a strong “change” message in a change year.
Perdue has issues that can take the moderate shine off McCrory, like school vouchers and stem cell research. But she has no powerful overarching theme. She has not separated herself from “more of the same.”
And she may not have the Obama tide her campaign hoped for. After the last week, some – not all, certainly, but some – Democrats fear Obama could lose here by 10-15 points.
