Over-Reading

I love Public Policy Polling – and the almost-daily poll fix they give me. But I take issue with a recent analysis.

PPP found that Senator Kay Hagan’s approval rating was up – to 39 percent, with 38 percent disapproval.

According to the N&O:

“Pollster Tom Jensen attributed Hagan’s improved standing to some more conservative positions she has taken, such as opposition to the Dream Act….”

I seriously doubt enough voters even knew about her position on the Dream Act to move her numbers.

Most likely, it’s a general uptick for Democrats as voters see more of Republicans in power.

We political junkies wrongly assume that voters follow day-to-day events as obsessively as do.

As a wise head once told me: “We talk a lot faster than voters listen.”
