While North Carolina Democrats seethed over a party-switcher, Wisconsin Democrats celebrated a landmark election victory.

They elected a progressive, Janet Protasiewicz, to the Supreme Court by a ten-point margin. She will dramatically shift the court’s rulings on abortion, gerrymandering and 2024 voting rights.

It’s a big win in a key swing state.

Unlike North Carolina’s Supreme Court candidates last year, Protasiewicz ran explicitly against abortion bans and “rigged” redistricting.

Here, the Democrats vowed to be fair and even-handed – not to wear a Trump or Biden hat, and to approach every case with a clean legal pad.

Now we have a politicized court that will rubber-stamp the legislature on abortion bans, voter suppression, gerrymandering and education funding.

The Wisconsin Democratic chair said, “This election was a release valve for twelve years of Democratic rage in Wisconsin about Republicans rigging our state and smashing our democracy—and then using that power to rip away our rights.”

One commentator called it a reaction against Republicans on “abortion bans, climate denial, gun idolatry, anti-democratic behavior and extremism (that) has lost them entire generations of Americans,”

North Carolina Democrats should go to school on Wisconsin – and fight, fight, fight to win.
