Not Practical
Born and bred in New York, a dealmaker, TV star, Trump has his own way of looking at things.
Take Ukraine: Back during the Cold War, to stop the Soviet Union, presidents made alliances. Like NATO. That kept us safe.
A dealmaker, sitting in the Oval Office, Trump sees alliances as financial transactions, looks at dollars and cents – he told Zelensky Ukraine was costing us too much, demanded Ukraine give us its rare minerals. That’s a transaction. Not an alliance.
Out to make a deal with Putin, cozying up, negotiating, Trump offered Putin part of Ukraine. That was practical. That’s how Trump looks at things. But is it making us safer?
Worse, Trump’s deal makes our promises seem worthless to our allies. Alliances fall apart. And that’s not practical. No allies leave us facing enemies – like Putin and China – alone.
