The election left me feeling better about our country than I have for six years.

But worse about North Carolina.

2022 showed that Americans are tired of the Trump Show, which has been running nonstop at full volume for seven and a half years since he rode down the golden escalator on June 16, 2015.

Even many Republicans seem ready to change the channel.

I wish that was because Trump lies constantly, cares not one whit about the country and tried to overturn a fair, legal election by inciting a violent mob attack on the Capitol, Congress and his own Vice President.

Instead, his sin is that he stopped winning.

This was the first national election since the January 6 attack.

It was the first since the Republican Supreme Court stripped away women’s health-care freedoms.

It was the first in which young people who practiced active-shooter drills got to vote.

That all helped Democrats.

But not in North Carolina.

Republicans are just one vote, one disloyal Democrat, from a legislative supermajority.

Republicans won the Supreme Court.

Republicans won the U.S. Senate race, again.

Democrats here have much work to do before 2024.
