More Silly Politics
Just before the election in October of 2008, sitting in my office pollster John McLaughlin opened a poll, said Obama was leading John McCain in North Carolina. No Democrat had won a presidential election in North Carolina in decades. No black man had ever won a statewide race for senator or governor.
I shook my head. “It’s hard to see that happening.”
John pointed to one number – with the economy tanking, a recession rolling along, George Bush’s unpopularity was through the roof and people who didn’t like Bush voted for Obama.
Three weeks later on Election Day Obama won North Carolina.
Last week two pollsters – with reliable track records – released their latest polls in seven swing states. One had Harris leading in five of seven; the other had her leading in six of seven. Both had Harris ahead of Trump in North Carolina.
That’s not set in stone. The election’s close. Trump can still win. But the wind’s blowing in Kamala Harris’ direction.
Can Trump turn it around?
At his rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday Trump boasted, ‘I’m better looking than she is.’
That won’t do it.
